The UTRGV Counseling and Training Clinics
Intake Process
If you need counseling at this time, we might be able to help you!
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley maintains two branches of its Counseling and Training Clinic (CTC), one located on the Brownsville campus, and one located on the Edinburg campus. Until recently, all appointments were scheduled physically at either location. However, the clinics recently had to halt all office appointments temporarily in order to observe the required social distancing due to the threat of COVID-19.
In response to this dilemma, the UTRGV Counseling Department began providing online telehealth services—using Zoom—to serve the counseling needs of the RGV community in crisis. This shift to online services permitted UTRGV student interns to continue earning their direct hours by counseling individuals willing to receive services through videoconferencing. Online delivery also permits our student counselors to work with clients from areas beyond the Valley. Once the pandemic crisis is over, our Clinics will resume on-site services, but continue offering Zoom sessions depending on the preference of the client.
All counselors providing services through the Clinics are current students in the UTRGV masters degree counseling program. As unlicensed counselors in training, they are supervised by on-site supervising clinical therapists who are Licensed Professional Counselors and Board-approved Supervisors, as well as their UTRGV Internship professors. Their supervisors may, on occasion, visit the sessions—or videotape them with your permission—in order to ensure the highest level of professionalism and skillfulness from our students.
If you wish to obtain counseling through our Clinics, please complete our Client Intake Survey. It will determine if you are willing to receive Telehealth services, or would rather wait until appointments can, once again, be scheduled on-site at the Clinic site your choice. Once you submit the forms, we will contact you shortly thereafter with further instructions.
All of the site pages and forms will soon be available in Spanish!
